How To : Nicole Richie's braided top knot

Hey Nicole Richie News Readers! My name is Charlene and I run Richie Riches for Less, a blog I created back in 2010 on how to get Nicole Richie's looks for less. I always found myself constantly recreating Nicole's looks without having the heavy designer price tags. Nicole's style has always been inspirational to me from her edgy rock looks to those amazing bohemian looks. 

I was thrilled when Belinda asked me to do a guest post on her blog. Lately, Nicole has been spotted with various top knot dos. Today, I will be showing you how to recreate a top knot braid in a few simple steps. I love this hair style and how easy it can be worn for a causal day out or a special event. Nicole was spotted most recently at the FFANY event rocking this updo. 

The steps are super easy: 

Step 1) pull your hair into a high ponytail. 

Step 2) braid the loose hair (I like to flip my hair over to get the braid straight) I notice the tighter the braid the smaller the bun. So if you'd like a fuller bun, make your braid loose. 

Step 3) wrap the braid around the hair tie then secure the ends with bobby pins. I like to add a few additional bobby pins around the braid for extra security. 

Step 4) Finish! Then spray your braided bun with hairspray. I use Aussie instant freeze hairspray. To get ride of those pesky fly aways, I use suave Keratin Infusion Serum.

Nicole Richie hosts National Jean Company store opening

Nicole Richie hosted an instore event at National Jean co. on Newbury street in Boston, April 25th.

Nicole opened the Boston store wearing a Winter Kate 'Kanti' top and Winter Kate 'Kala' skirt and a tiny top knot!

A Top Knot is becoming Nicole's signature look.

Along with a special apperance Nicole also showcased her S/S12 Winter Kate collection at the Newbury street store, we spy the fabulous Esha Dress.

SPOTTED: Nicole Richie leaving the salon

Nicole Richie was spotted leaving her pal's salon Andy Lecompte yesterday (14th November 2011) with her hair pulled up tight into a small top knot.

Nicole Richie wore a red and black Winter Kate 'Tilapia' blouse, fur sleeved jacket, a pair of HOH1960 shades and HOH1960 'Neena' ankle boots.

I would never of clashed the red and black print of her Winter Kate top with the black and white stripes on her Balenciaga bag, but do you not what Nicole Richie has convinced me .. clashing prints work!

Nicole Richie was pictured hiding behind a Pascal Mouawad shopper bag yesterday afternoon (2nd April) in Los Angeles.
Nicole Richie was dressed very casual in grey sweat pants and a black hoody wearing her signature top knot.

Nicole Richie attends CFDA awards

Nicole Richie attended the CFDA awards (June 3rd) in NYC.

Nicole looked flawless in a metallic slip dress by Marc Jacobs, a sleek top knot by hair stylist Seiji Yamada, a natural face with a pop of colour on the lips by make-up artist Jake Bailey and a pair of pointed pumps by Giuseppe Zanotti.

Vogue got ready with Nicole Richie pre CFDA awards and covered it all in an online diary.

Nicole Richie was in attendance at the 2012 Mercedes-Benz Style Awards (September 5th) in NYC.

Nicole Richie still hasn't chose a wedding dress!

The latest gossip surrounding the Richie-Madden wedding is that Nicole Richie is undecided on her wedding dress!

NICOLE Richie still hasn’t decided on her wedding dress.

The fashion designer — who is expected to tie the knot with her fiance Joel Madden this weekend — has narrowed her choice down to two gowns but has not yet made up her mind which one she will wear to walk down the aisle.

“She’s deciding between two dresses; Marchesa and vintage Chanel,” a source said.

Though she hasn’t made up her mind about which gown to wear, Nicole — who has two children, daughter Harlow, two, and 14-month-old son Sparrow, with Joel — flew to New York last weekend for a final fitting in the Marchesa gown.

“Nicole brought her stylist Simone Harouche with her,” a source said. “A lot of thought went into her dress — it was a priority for her.”

Meanwhile, Nicole’s wedding planner Mindy Weiss has been calling her guests to invite them to the “intimate” ceremony, which is to be held at the socialite’s father Lionel Richie’s estate in Beverly Hills this weekend.

“Mindy called all of the guests personally,” said the pal .”It’s going to be a very small wedding.”

Earlier this week, it was revealed contractors have been working hard transforming Lionel’s outdoor area for the ceremony, with white tables and chairs arranged outside and a special dancefloor constructed.

“A stage is being built over the pool in the backyard so the guests will have more space to dance,” a source said.

“It’s kind of cool because people will be dancing on top of the water.”

To copy the catwalk look all you have to do is follow these simple steps:

Step 1- Prep your hair with a texturiser

Step 2- Pull hair into a top-of-your head pony

Step 3 - If you have fine hair give your pony tail a slight backcomb to create volume
(This will help to create a volumous bun)

Step 4 - Pull it part through so you end up with a floppy bun

Step 5 - Don’t fret about flyaway baby hairs, as they added a sexy and cool touch to the models at Erdem.
